Not Nick Nolte's Diary, Malibu, California
March 12, 2005

Marks

I took the Vega out for a spin, hunting for that hawk. There were a couple of rolls of 200 ASA burning a hole in my camera bag. I staked out Malibu Canyon park and rutted about in the glove box for a snack. I found a wad of German marks in the glove compartment wrapped with a tasteful pink rubber band that had Westdeutsche Landesbank printed on it. I will ask Manolo for the exchange rate. I think I won the money in a hearts game in West Germany in 1984. I remember because we stayed up late watching the L.A. olympics. That summer I played hearts with Arliss Howard just about every night. He is a tough opponent and will void spades without hesitation, Diary. It's been a while since I've talked with him. That's the funny thing about old ghosts. They don't really get old.
